Hanging on Every Word
PGC will present a panel discussion titled, “Hanging on Every Word: Listening and Learning on Immigration Art” with several of the artists in the current exhibition The United, in conversation with Curator Johanna Lasner and Program Director Valerie Bundy. They will also share images and video content from the exhibition on Intersect Chicago’s website.
The United, a new exhibition currently on view at Pittsburgh Glass Center examines the complicated topic of immigration which affects many of us closely, as members of diverse communities, as descendants of immigrants, or as immigrants ourselves. The exhibition with artwork from 12 artists from Belgium, Northern Ireland, Russia and the US explores the possibilities for proactive engagement with immigration issues and offers a message of resilience, hope and resistance.
The panel discussion will address how critical art can answer to an immigration system that addresses inequality, human rights violations and exclusion and the importance of art as one of the few public hubs where differences in culture, ideology and history can coexist. Artists include:
Najah Alboushi
Sandra Bacchi
May Maylisa Cat
Tali Grinshpan
Alan Iwamura
